The Minnesota Truck Driving Championships (TDC) is a two-day competition for professional truck drivers from MTA member companies across Minnesota.   Encourage your drivers to register!

The top four drivers from each class, upon conclusion of the Saturday, June 8 running, will compete in the finals on Sunday, June 9.  The winners in each class will be announced at the banquet on Sunday, June 9 at 4:00 p.m. following the competition.  One winner will be named the 2019 Grand Champion.  First place winners will have the opportunity to represent Minnesota in the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) hosted by the American Trucking Association, August 14-17, 2019 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The NTDC and affiliated state TDCs like the Minnesota Truck Driving Championships are considered one of the industry’s largest and most effective safety programs. These annual competitions inspire tens of thousands of drivers to operate accident-free for the right to compete.

Drivers can register for the following categories: Straight Truck, 3-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer, 4-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer, 5-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer, 5-Axle Sleeper Berth Tractor-Semitrailer, Tank Truck, Flatbed, Twin Trailers, and Step Van.  Companies may register a maximum of three drivers in each class of competition.

The event includes a written test, a pre-trip inspection, and a driving obstacle course.  Drivers will drive equipment that is randomly selected and all efforts will be made to secure "like" equipment in each of the classes.

This family friendly event is open to the public.  Please bring your family, friends, and work colleagues to cheer on the drivers.  Companies with registered drivers are encouraged to bring spectator tents.   Food truck concessions will be available throughout the weekend to contestants and spectators.  All proceeds support the Minnesota Truck Driving Championships.

There are many great reasons for companies to register their drivers to compete at the Minnesota Truck Driving Championships (TDC):

  • The TDC is a great incentive for professional truck drivers to operate safely, because they must be accident-free for at least one year prior to the competition. Many of the competitors have millions of accident-free driving miles to their credit.
  • When asked, professional drivers will tell you that they are drawn to the Championships by the spirit of competition and by the prestige of being named the best of the best.
  • Drivers come to win, but revel in the camaraderie and excitement.
  • Competing drivers feel a sense of pride and achievement, which creates good driver morale and positive attitudes among employees and with customers.
  • Companies can take pride in their drivers’ achievements and recognize their excellence both on and off the road.  This builds good relationships between the company and its drivers, which translates into driver retention.
  • As a family event, it lifts up truck driving as a good career choice and presents a positive image of the truck driver and the trucking industry.
  • It’s fun, and builds company pride to have a rooting section at the TDC cheering on your drivers.

DRIVER ELIGIBILITY:  To be eligible, a driver must maintain continuous employment with an MTA member motor carrier fleet for a continuous period of at least one year and remain accident free, regardless of fault, for one year prior to TDC.  If your company is NOT currently an MTA member and you have drivers that want to participate this year CLICK TO JOIN ONLINE or call (763) 251-6431 for membership information.
