Mn/DOT Permit Office - Monday, August 5, 2013

This is an update to address issues some of you have encountered with a recent upgrade to our permitting system.  Unfortunately, several issues with the new system have caused delays in permit issuance, as well as other problems. We apologize for the inconvenience and extra work your staff may be going through during this time.

Approximately two years ago, we started working with our vendor on the system upgrade. In July 2013, we implemented this major update. Although we went through extensive testing during product development, certain issues couldn’t be replicated by our vendor to be fixed and other issues could not be foreseen until the system was put into production.

We never planned to deploy a new system during our busy summer months. Programming delays and quality control issues kept pushing the install date from the original March deployment into July. Still, we decided to deploy sooner rather than later in the season (like November) because we believed the improvements for our customers would be beneficial, and we did not expect so many last-minute issues.

We are working daily with our vendor on solutions. It will likely be a few more weeks before we can say our permit system is where it needs to be. Some bigger issues to be fixed involve our routing table, applications being routed to Bridge Office that don’t need to be, and an issue with transaction billing where some permits are being duplicate-billed.

We are working hard to resolve these issues. We appreciate and thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have specific issues/questions, please contact us at ofcvopermits.dot@state.mn.us, or contact Michael Carli at Michael.carli@state.mn.us.

Our new MN511 Trucker’s Page that MnDOT recently launched. The Trucker’s Page provides additional road information (such as low vertical clearances, weight posted bridges, roundabout locations, etc.) that is specific for truckers. You can check it out at http://www.511mn.org.
